As I sit here at my parents’ house, enjoying some much-needed “me time” while on vacation with my husband and daughter, I’m reminded of something that so many of us, especially moms, seem to forget: Which is Rest is Not a Reward.
I made a post about this on my Substack Notes the other week which resonated with a lot of people so I thought I’d get into it more here. Especially since the beliefs we have about rest have collectively been hindering many of us from truly taking care of ourselves.
After entering my 30’s I finally realized rest is not something we have to earn by checking off every item on our never ending to-do lists or by constantly putting everyone else’s needs before our own. Rest is actually a necessity.
We need to fill our cups in order to be well and pour into others, yet we often treat rest like a luxury or even a guilty pleasure.
