How I Found Peace in the Midst of Chaos (And How You Can Too)

Hey Lovely!
Life has an interesting way of piling on the stress, doesn’t it? I think that’s how the phrase, “when it rains, it pours,” came to be. Well, around 7 years ago, I was caught in that pouring rain. I was working in an overwhelming 8-5 corporate job, living on my own trying to make ends meet, with a dating life that was practically in the toilet.
I felt like I was in survival mode. Each day felt like I was walking on the cracked pavement of my hopes and dreams searching for a more stable foundation.
I wasn’t sure what to do about this but I knew something needed to be done. Then one day, as if I didn’t already have enough stress in my life… I found myself suited up in a Staten Island courtroom. I was standing before a judge, looking to get a moving violation thrown out. Your girl was innocent, so I knew all I had to do was tell my story, and I would be found not-guilty.
After the officer gave his stumbling spiel, I said my side of the story without even uttering “um,” “like,” or any filler words for that matter. I felt confident. So, I was surprised that once I stopped speaking, the judge coldly said, “Are you done?” and stared at me like my very presence was a waste of his time. My confidence melted away like a cup of ice cream that got knocked onto the concrete of a hot summer day. I had a feeling the judge was not going to rule in my favor and not to my surprise, he found me guilty.
That was the emotional last straw that broke my back that day. I was defeated. I felt depleted. And as I began to make my sad way back to Queens, I remembered one of my friends recommended yoga and meditation to me years prior. To be honest, at the time I had this stereotype in my head similar to others in my community. I thought it was woo woo, and that it was for people who lived in huts or on mountaintops. I also thought,
“How could sitting in silence do anything beneficial to someone in turmoil?”
But since I was an emotional wreck at the time anyway, I also thought, “what do I have to lose?”
Pushing through my emotions and ignoring my stress was too familiar and it wasn’t something I wanted to try that day. So, I got off the highway, pulled over to the side of the road in Brooklyn and Googled yoga/meditation near me. I found a class nearby on NYC Parks at the Atlantic Terminal Community Center, signed up, and headed straight there.
There I was. I along with one other woman, sharing this vulnerable space together for a moment to de-stress and find peace. As we reached the end of the practice and laid on the ground in savasana pose, immersed in the stillness and quiet of the room, I felt the tears glide down the sides of my face.
I found my peace.
My worries had escaped my mind like the tears did my eyes.
At that moment, something changed in me. I noticed a shift. I was calm. Centered. Grounded.
I realized that mediation and yoga was about more than sitting in the stillness. It was about giving myself permission to breathe. To rest and reset. To enjoy peace.
That experience was a turning point for me, and it’s something I want to share with you. If you’re feeling like life is running you ragged, I want to invite you to explore what I’ve learned on my wellness journey. You don’t have to be a meditation expert or have hours to spare. You just need a willingness to try something new and a desire to find peace in the midst of the chaos.
That’s why I’m excited to share the upcoming workshop I’m hosting called "Embracing Wellness: A Journey to Releasing Stress." This 60-minute session is designed to help you reconnect with yourself and build a wellness routine that works for you. We’ll explore meditation, Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT), and other practical tools that you can start using right away.
If you’re ready to take a step towards feeling more balanced and centered, I’d love for you to join me! Together, we’ll explore ways to bring more calm and joy into our lives—even on the busiest days. If you can’t make it live, a replay will be available to watch.
